Over 150 people sign up for Trail & Ale fundraiser

The fourth annual Trail & Ale fundraiser, in support of Rayjon Share Care, has attracted more participants than organizers were anticipating.

The five and 10 kilometre walk/run was first held virtually in 2020 but has since been held in-person.

Race Director Erin Gilbert said so far about $8,000 has been raised, nearing their goal of $10,000.

"We actually had to close registration a little bit early because we hit our max," she said. "We are at 154 people registered for Rayjon Trail & Ale so that's way more than we were expecting this year."

Last year's event saw 132 runners and walkers.

Participants will start the race on the Howard Watson Nature Tail from Michigan Avenue in Sarnia.

"The walkers will go out at 10 a.m. and the runners will go out at 10:30 a.m.," Gilbert said. "Both the five and the 10K splice off into Blackwell Tail and it's a really fun route that we put together where there's a mix of small hills you can climb."

Gilbert said the event is again sponsored by Refined Fool Brewing Co. They've also partnered with Point Brewing Co., BackRoads Brews + Shoes, and Maud's Variety, which will be DJing at the start and finish lines.

After the race, participants will attend Refined Fool's Sports for food and refreshments.

Rayjon Share Care supports communities in Haiti and the Dominican Republic with education, health care, and women's empowerment.
