Shell Canada says traffic delays are expected on Thursday as a large reactor is transported from the Port of Sarnia to the company's Manufacturing Centre in Corunna.
The route will follow Sarnia's oversized load corridor, but there will be some disruptions.
Contractor Mammoet is helping undertake the move, and will be accompanied by a police escort. The process is expected to begin at 9 a.m. and will wrap up at around 3 p.m.
There are no road closures planned, but residents should consider using alternate routes during that time.
The full route is listed below.
In a news release, Shell said the over $3 million reactor weighs over 400,000 pounds, is 120 feet long, and four inches thick.
The company said it began its journey to Sarnia from Italy on September 1.
From Italy, the reactor travelled across the Atlantic Ocean and down the St. Lawrence River to reach the Port of Sarnia. The new reactor was sourced to replace an existing version that is over 70 years old during next year’s turnaround.
The route is about 30.6 kilometres long, 26.4 km of which uses the oversized load corridor.
