Sarnia's annual Celebration of Lights is fast approaching, and volunteers are needed to help set up the displays at Centennial Park.
Chairman Dean Holtz said they'll be moved to the park on Saturday, November 4, beginning at 9 a.m.
"We're meeting over at Sandrin Services on Exmouth Street, that's where we have our displays stored," said Holtz. "We just have to transfer them over to Centennial Park to where we're going to set them up. So, we need trucks and trailers. Trailers, I would say, should be a minimum of 16 feet. Probably about 20 people would be plenty for that because we're not setting them up, we're just transporting them."
Holtz said "crane day" is Tuesday, November 14 at 9 a.m.
"Sterling Crane is amazing, they offer a crane for us free of charge as their way of sponsoring which is awesome. The crane does the heavy lifting but we need people to help guide some of the displays. We'll need some strength, so we'll need 10 strong people to help out with that."
Community set up day takes place on Saturday, November 18, starting at 9 a.m.
Holtz said they need at least 100 people to put displays together and run electrical.
"Just come to the back of the Suncor Agora stage to register and sign in," he said. "We certainly encourage youth, if they want to get their volunteer hours, which is amazing. We do ask that they be accompanied by an adult. We will have refreshments for everyone who helps out. We're looking for at least 100 volunteers. That way, it might not take us all day. It should only take three to four hours."
Those interested in volunteering can message the Sarnia Lambton Celebration of Lights Facebook page to sign up. You can also email Dean at deanholtz@gmail.com
The opening ceremonies are Saturday, November 25 at 5 p.m.
There will be a Christmas Carol Concert, Santa, fireworks, horse drawn wagon rides, hot drinks from Blackwater Café, and more. Admission is free.
