Sarnia Sting fans tossed 4,128 teddy bears on to the ice at Progressive Auto Sales Arena Sunday in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. However, the Sting didn't actually score yet when the bears went flying.
The Kitchener Rangers (20-7-1-0) scored early and took a 3-0 lead into the second period.
Rangers goalie Tristan Malboeuf made a glove save on a shot by Sting centre Andrew LeBlanc early in the second, but the red light went on and the bears hit the ice.
The Sting's Sandis Vilmanis would get Sarnia on the board with a power play goal late in the second period to make it 4-1.
Kai Schwindt and Andrew LeBlanc also scored for the Sting (10-16-0-0) to make it 4-3 in the third period.
The Rangers Carson Rehkoph scored his second of the game for a 5-3 lead followed by a goal from Matthew Sop in the 6-3 victory.
The annual toy drive, co-sponsored by Finch Ford Lincoln, has collected over 80,000 stuffed toys since its inception in 1998. The toys will be distributed to local charities including the Salvation Army, Noelle's Gift and the Inn of the Good Shepherd.
Sarnia visits the London Knights in OHL action Tuesday night. You can catch the game live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM).
