Sarnia Spä opens with touchless massage

A new spa in downtown Sarnia is offering a modern twist to its services.

Sage Spä owner Monika Poell said the idea came from something she saw on social media.

"We had seen a place in Toronto, we went there to try it out ourselves and we loved the concept of these full body massage chairs," said Poell. "The fact that we came out feeling just as rested as we have before from a real massage with an RMT [registered massage therapist]… it was kind of mind blowing."

Poell quickly realized the benefits of offering a similar service in Sarnia.

"Some people do not like to be touched by other humans. Some people don't have the time to schedule a proper RMT massage. Some people can't afford it. Some people don't have the benefits. So, there were a lot of factors that went into why this could be a good alternative for people in a smaller town," she said.

Poell said the touchless massage chairs cost $20 to use for 20 minutes.

"It's 20 minutes out of your day. You could do that on your lunch break easily. Hang out in the lounge after and grab something to eat on your way back to work," Poell said.

She said other services are being offered as well.

"We've opened it up to have rooms for an aesthetician, we have IV vitamin drips done by nurses that are medical directed by nurse practitioners, an infrared light lounge that you can relax in afterwards. You're taking care of your skin... taking care of your body," said Poell.

The spa is located beside Coffee Culture in a space previously occupied by LUX butik, at 140 Lochiel Street.
