Rescued puppies looking for 'fur-ever' homes

Five puppies rescued by Sarnia police over the holidays are officially up for adoption.

The Sarnia and District Humane Society listed the four-month-old Rottweiler puppies on its website this week. They've been named Tink, Merida, Tiana, Raya, and Moana.

The female pups were found living outside in poor conditions when they were picked up by local officers on December 29, 2023.

Operations Manager Nicole King said it's crucial the puppies were found when they were.

"We like to get them younger because then we can put them into homes that can go into the training and all that stuff with them, and there's not bad habits or fear," she said. "Some dogs that come to us that are older... the fear takes quite some time for us to break that and for us to bond with them and for them to get to know us."

Now, King said the puppies are thriving.

"After a couple of weeks of getting their nutrition and vet care, their vaccines, deworming … they are beyond thriving now and into everything. They are true puppies right now," laughed King.

Prospective adoptive parents, of any breed, are asked to do their homework before applying to ensure it's a good fit.

King said Rottweilers are very smart, loyal dogs, and are easy to train.

"These pups are very smart, they've already learned how to play fetch and they're learning so much with us every day but again, you still have to remember Rotti's are protectors," she said. "So you just want to make sure you raise them right. They weren't off to the best start, they're getting there now but we just want to make sure they go to the right homes so they can flourish and be great dogs."

Further details about the puppies, and other animals up for adoption, can be found on the humane society's website or Facebook page.
