Eagle-eyed staff at Park Lane Chevrolet help bust fraudster

Trying to buy a new vehicle with a fake ID has resulted in fraud charges for a Sarnia woman.

City police were called on Monday about a customer attempting to purchase a truck valued at about $100,000 at Park Lane Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC allegedly using fraudulent documents.

The Sarnia Police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) initiated an investigation and found the accused used counterfeit cheques, credit cards and identification.

On Wednesday, the customer returned to the London Road dealership to finish the paperwork and pick-up the vehicle and was apprehended by waiting officers.

During the arrest, officers allegedly seized various forms of fraudulent identification including driver's licence, health card, permanent resident card and Social Insurance Number (SIN), as well as a small quantity of cocaine.

A 23-year-old Sarnia woman is charged with fraud over $5,000, three counts of uttering a forged document, personation with intent, identity theft and possession of a controlled substance.

She was being held pending a bail hearing.
