Sarnia Compost Site open for the season

Residents who are planning to begin their spring-time yard work this weekend will be able to drop off yard waste and brush at the City of Sarnia's Compost Site for free.

The site at 379 St. Andrews St. officially opened for the season on April 2.

The facility will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. until mid-December (depending on the weather).

Those planning to drop off yard waste and brush will be required to provide proof of residency.

Last year, the compost site received 7,928 metric tonnes of yard waste and brush, the majority of which was collected during curbside collection days.

Acceptable items include leaves, grass or sod, garden waste, trees and branches that are less than four inches in diameter. Unacceptable items include tree trunks, soil or dirt, mulch, pine needles, ferns, and pet feces.

A full list of items that will not be accepted, along with additional information can be found on the city's website.
