BWHF spring 50/50 to support local sexual assault treatment centre

Tickets are now on sale for the Bluewater Health Foundation's (BWHF) spring online 50/50 draw.

Funds raised will support the hospital's Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Treatment Centre, which is undergoing a major renovation this year.

Foundation Executive Director Kathy Alexander said the centre was first established in 1987, and is in need of a significant refresh, with the goal of creating a tranquil and welcoming space for those accessing services.

She said the team is available to provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"The foundation has committed to raising about $700,000 to complete that very important project," said Alexander. "So, it's really about developing and providing a safe environment for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking that are accessing care and treatment at Bluewater Health."

Alexander said there are early bird draws planned for May 15 and May 29, with prizes of $500 and $1,000 respectively.

"The final deadline is Wednesday, June 12 at midnight, with the 50/50 draw taking place on June 13," she said. "It's a short and sweet turnaround for the spring lottery but we're really excited."

Alexander said they're hoping to at least match last year's draw which generated about $30,000 each for the winner and the foundation.

"What's really exciting about 50/50 draws is, once that pot starts growing, people get excited and it's contagious," she said. "We've seen some tremendous success with 50/50s right across Lambton County. I think it's really a great way to raise funds and do something fun, but someone else is also a winner. We've seen some success with our colleagues at the Thunder Bay Hospital Foundation. Their monthly 50/50 is over $1 million."

You can buy a ten pack of tickets for $10, 30 for $20, or 150 for $40.

They're available online only by visiting www.BWHF5050.ca.
