Improvements underway at Tecumseh Park

Construction has started on the redevelopment of Sarnia's Tecumseh Park ball diamond and pathways.

It started earlier this month with demolition work well underway.

Manager of Facility Services Tom Burnard said the park has been fully secured.

"There will be heavy machinery in and out of the driveway area and parking lots but overall the area is well contained inside of the park," he said.

Currently, the park is closed while crews work on the pathways.

"The park is fully closed right now. Pathway work will wrap up at the end of next week, so we will have user groups returning to the park in a limited capacity," he said.

The $954,000 tender was given to Titan Group Construction and Burnard said it's a full rebuild of the field.

"(This is) including a proper drainage system, clay playing surface, new LED field lighting, fencing, bleachers, bullpen, new scoreboard are all part of the scope of work. It's just such a great park and so deserving of these improvements," he said.

While the ball diamond will be closed to the public, the rest of the park will be open once the pathways are complete.

"There's a lot of great things happening in the park. Come this summer, I think it's going to become a new experience for people that use that park," he said.

Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.

City council approved the improvements at its March 11 meeting.
