Three Sarnia friends will again host a charitable garage sale with the goal of supporting those with Parkinson's disease.
Ava Salem, 10, Amisha Duggal, 10, and Brooke Reiger, 9, (along with their parents) will hold a garage sale on Saturday, June 22, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 1777 Modeland Rd. in Sarnia.
The young girls held a similar event in 2022, where funds raised supported the Inn of the Good Shepherd.
Brooke's father, Roy Reiger, said this weekend's garage sale will also include a lemonade stand and a silent auction, with items contributed by several local businesses.
He said some of the auction items include Sarnia Sting tickets donated by the team, a car detail from Progressive Auto Sales, a tint from Henderson Window Tinting, a gift card for My Secret Garden, six memberships from META Training Centre (formerly META Taekwondo), a gift basket from Djay's Inferno Sauce, a windbreaker jacket from BMW, a one-hour axe throwing session for four people by Valley Axe Sarnia, a Weber barbeque toolset from a silent donor, and a signed Sarnia Sting puck donated by Brooke.
"It's nice to have all of this local business support," Reiger said.
Additionally, Reiger said a silent donor will match the funds raised up to $2,000.
"My daughter likes to do charitable [work] so she wanted to do another [sale] this year and it's for a family member's walk for Parkinson's, and she wanted her friends to help with that."
Brooke herself will also participate in the Sarnia-Lambton Walk for Parkinson's, which is scheduled to take place at Canatara Park on September 8.
Reiger said their family member, Grant Bourner, raised over $9,100 for last year's Walk for Parkinson's and had a goal of raising $10,000 this year.
Funds raised through the charitable garage sale and silent auction will go towards Bourner's walk. The goal for the sale is to raise $5,000.
Duggal said she too has a connection to Parkinson's which fueled her desire to help.
"My great aunt has Parkinson's so I was excited to raise money," said Duggal. "We really want to reach our goal of raising $5,000 and spreading awareness about Parkinson's.
Brooke said they're excited to host the sale. She said her takeaway from the last experience was how generous community members can be.
"Somebody bought a $2 coffee and they gave us $100," Brooke said.
Cash is encouraged at the garage sale. The silent auction will close at 5 p.m.
Reiger said if other businesses would like to contribute items to the silent auction, he can be reached via email at roy_reiger@hotmail.com.
