Lambton OPP release stats from Canada Road Safety Week

Lambton OPP has released the local statistics from Canada Road Safety Week, held from June 21 to July 1.

The campaign was aimed at reducing collisions by focusing on impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and seatbelt use.

It also included increased enforcement and public awareness.

During the campaign, OPP officers in Lambton County laid 284 traffic-related charges including 146 for speeding, two each for stunt driving and distracted driving, six impaired charges, and 43 for not wearing a seatbelt.

Police said 24 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs were set up across Lambton County during the campaign.

The remainder of charges fall under the Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence and Control Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, and Canada Shipping Act.

OPP said they will continue to focus throughout the summer on the "Big Four" factors in serious and fatal collisions: aggressive driving, inattentive driving, impaired driving, and lack of occupant restraints.

This includes major highways and all other OPP-patrolled roads.
