Dog seized, owner charged after biting incidents at Rainbow Park

A 39-year-old Sarnia man is facing several bylaw charges after multiple complaints about dog attacks at Rainbow Park.

City police received reports on July 1 and July 3 of unleashed dogs at the Christina Street park that had attacked other animals and people.

On July 1 at 6:45 p.m., a man reported that he and his dog were attacked by two “pit bull type” dogs known to belong to a park occupant. The two were not injured.

However, police said a similar incident previously occurred involving these same dogs.

"This second complainant reported his dog was attacked by two off leash dogs while he was walking northbound on Christina Street at Rainbow Park," read a media release. "The complainant was able to provide a description of the dogs and the owner. This victim received a bite to his hand and arm (minor injury) and his dog sustained superficial bite marks on its head."

Police searched the park but the dogs and the owner had left the area.

Sarnia police said the owner and one of the dogs were located on Monday, July 8.

The dog was seized and placed in the care of the Sarnia and District Humane Society, which will determine the appropriate disposition of the dog.

The accused, whose name has not been released, faces the following offences under the Sarnia bylaw (non-criminal).

- Three counts of permitting a cat or dog to threaten, bite, or attack any person.

-Three counts of permitting a cat or dog to bite or attack any domestic animal.

-Three counts of permitting to run at large – dogs.
