Provincial police are advising motorists to make the smart decision when getting behind the wheel after five alleged impaired drivers were arrested this past weekend.
Lambton OPP said a vehicle was stopped for speeding on London Line in Sarnia, at around 7:40 p.m. on Friday, July 5.
Police said a 36-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and charged with speeding and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on August 7.
On Saturday, July 6, OPP conducted a traffic stop at 1:25 a.m. on Smith Street in St. Clair Township. A 21-year-old from Stoney Point was suspected of being impaired and was taken to the Corunna detachment for further testing.
They were later charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on July 29.
At 5:15 p.m., officers arrested a 22-year-old from Mississauga at a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checkpoint on Main Street in Grand Bend. The driver was charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on August 27.
Shortly after 8:40 p.m., OPP conducted a traffic stop on Oil Heritage Road in Enniskillen Township. A 36-year-old Dresden man was taken to the Petrolia detachment and later charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on August 12.
Just after 9:40 p.m., OPP stopped a vehicle on Arkona Road in Warwick Township after the driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. A 20-year-old from Kerwood was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and disobeying a stop sign. They're scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on August 6.
Although the incidents were unrelated, OPP said each driver listed above was issued a 90-day administrative driver's license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
