Sarnia police arrest wanted 28-year-old

Police in Sarnia have arrested a man on numerous charges and turned him over to immigration authorities.

Sarnia officers, along with agents from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), arrested the 28-year-old man on Thursday at the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

The suspect was previously arrested on July 2 for causing a disturbance, mischief, and obstructing an officer, but was released the next day on a personal recognizance bail.

Police say since then, the suspect has allegedly caused issues in places where the homeless population congregated. As a result, the CBSA was brought in.

"As a result of [the suspect's] previous criminal convictions, his outstanding criminal charges, and his repeated involvement with police, [he] was deemed a threat to public safety," read a release from Sarnia police. "[The suspect] was arrested by members of the Sarnia Police Service under the authority of section 55 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act."

The suspect was handed over to the CBSA for determination of his immigrant status.
