Scene of Port Huron warehouse fire cleared

The Port Huron Fire Department says it has cleared the scene at US Farathane after a large warehouse fire was reported on Sunday, July 7.

The fire department posted an update to Facebook on Thursday afternoon.

"However, further response will follow for multiple days, for hot spots that may arise," read the Facebook post. "This is very common in large commercial fires with the type of product and material that was stored in this facility."

The Port Huron Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause.

"A huge thanks is owed to everyone who has provided support," continued the Facebook post. "This will not begin to express our gratitude to the community, brothers and sisters, first responders, and other agencies who assisted throughout this incident."

Several agencies were thanked in the social media post, including Sarnia Fire Rescue, which travelled across the border to assist during day one, backfilling Station One.

Media releases issued by Port Huron's fire chief said over the past few days, there were pockets of smoldering fire due to burning plastic combustibles. Excavation equipment was brought on-site for demolition and debris removal.

The site, located in Port Huron's industrial park, was fenced off and is currently being monitored by security.
