Alleged thief locks himself inside vehicle

Sarnia police say a man, who was allegedly rummaging through a vehicle in the city's north end, locked himself inside when officers tried to apprehend him.

On Monday, police were called to the area of Trinity Crescent and Errol Road for a report of a suspicious person.

Police said they found a bicycle leaning up against the front of a car, and the suspect going through the centre console.

He locked the door, but eventually came out after a brief negotiation, and was arrested without incident.

A 40-year-old man is charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of break-and-enter instruments, trespass by night, and failing to comply with a release order.

He was held for a bail hearing. Residents in the area of Trinity Crescent and Errol Road are asked to check their cars for missing property and to contact police at 519-344-8861 extension 0 to report if anything has been stolen.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
