High bacteria levels recorded at several Lambton beaches

A handful of local beaches have been deemed unsafe for swimming.

Lambton Public Health (LPH) said warning signs have been posted at Grand Bend North and South beaches, Pinery Provincial Park, Ipperwash Main beach, Bright's Grove (including Mike Weir Park), and Canatara Park beach.

The advisories follow heavy rain earlier this week that temporarily flooded city streets and highways.

The health unit said following heavy rainfall, the water at area beaches may be temporarily polluted for up to 48 hours.

LPH also conducts regular water testing at C.J. McEwan (Highland Glen).

It's advised that you check the water quality status before you head out to the beach.

You can do that by texting the keyword: BEACH to 226-909-3003, viewing LPHs map of beach locations and inspection results, calling the Beach Info Line: 519-383-3816, toll-free 1-800-667-1839 ext. 3816 or viewing signs at the inspected beach location entry points.
