Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) has installed three bus shelters along its route, thanks in part to a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Grand Bend.
HSAT said the cost of installing the shelters, at the bus hub beside Sobey's in Grand Bend and at Points Plaza and Army Camp Road at Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, was partially offset by a $6,500 donation from the club.
A cheque presentation ceremony was held earlier this week.
Those three locations were chosen based on ridership volume and exposure to weather conditions.
In 2023, HSAT acquired eight used bus shelters from Stratford Transit. They were refurbished and painted signal blue, a medium royal blue colour, consistent with HSAT’s branding.
The bus shelters are accessible, with an opening wide enough for a wheelchair to enter and turn around, and also come with a small two-person bench.
The Rotary Club of Grand Bend's contribution was put toward the cost of installing three shelters, including refurbishment and construction of the concrete pads.
The Municipality of Lambton Shores' Public Works Department provided in-kind support for the physical installation.
HSAT said each of the three shelters now features an attractive plaque recognizing the rotary's generosity.
HSAT welcomes further support from organizations and businesses to help fund the installation of the remaining five shelters.
