Over $14K in drugs seized in traffic stop

Sarnia police seized over $14,500 in drugs during a traffic stop in the Cardiff Acres area Tuesday, August 20.

At around 9:50 p.m., the Sarnia Police Service Major Case Action Team (MCAT) stopped a pickup truck in the area of Lanark Crescent and Somerset Crescent, in an attempt to arrest one of the two occupants for drug offences. 

Police allege during the traffic stop, the truck driver attempted to flee by striking an unmarked police vehicle before driving onto a residential lawn. 

Officers attempted to box the truck in, at which time it police said it struck a second unmarked police vehicle head-on, allowing other unmarked police vehicles to successfully pin the truck.

Police said thankfully no injuries were reported and damage to the police vehicles was minimal.

Police seized 11.33 grams of cocaine, 299 dilaudid pills and 0.40 grams of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $14,855.

A 28-year-old Sarnia man is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, operation while prohibited and failure to comply with a release order.

A 23-year-old Sarnia woman is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, dangerous operation of a conveyance and driving while under suspension.

Both of the accused were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on September 25.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
