Sarnia police arrest machete wielding motel guest

A man wielding a machete was arrested after confronting a maintenance worker at a Sarnia motel.

The Sarnia Police Service said on Saturday, August 24 just before 5 p.m., officers were called to a weapons investigation at London Line motel.

According to witnesses, the suspect allegedly left his room brandishing a machete and confronted a maintenance worker, threatening them with violence before retreating back into his room.

Responding patrol officers contained the unit and the Emergency Response Team and  K9 unit were deployed.

The male suspect surrendered a short time later without incident.

The 60-year-old Sarnia man was on bail for weapons related offences stemming from a separate investigation, and bound by a judicial release order to not possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code.

The accused is charged with multiple offenses including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause bodily harm and failure to comply with release order.

On Sunday, August 25, police executed a search warrant and seized the involved machete.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
