Charges laid in 2020 homicide

A 20-year-old from London has been charged in the 2020 murder of 29-year-old David Oliver of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation.

A homicide investigation was launched after Oliver's body was discovered on August 2, 2020, at a former army base near Highway 21 in Lambton Shores. Oliver was previously reported missing by family members.

On Wednesday, Lambton OPP announced the accused was arrested on September 10 and charged with second-degree murder and committing an indignity to a body.

Police said at the time, the accused was a youth so their identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused was held in custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on September 11.

Two billboards were installed at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation in 2023 with hopes of generating tips to help in the investigation.

Lambton OPP said the Crime Unit is continuing to investigate under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from Anishinabek Police Service and the OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact OPP at 519-882-1011 or 1-888-310-1122. Those who want to remain anonymous, can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or submit a tip online at sarnialambtoncrimestoppers.org.
