OPP stress 'move over' law after cruiser struck on Hwy. 402

Lambton OPP are reminding drivers of the "slow down and move over" law, after one of their cruisers was struck by a transport while parked on the side of Highway 402.

It happened at around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Modeland Road in the City of Sarnia.

Police said the cruiser was on the shoulder in a construction zone, with its emergency lights activated, when it was struck by an eastbound tractor trailer.

The officer was not inside the vehicle at the time, and no injuries were reported.

A 25-year-old from Brampton was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following offences:

· Careless driving

· Operate unsafe commercial motor vehicle

· Operate commercial motor vehicle with major defect

· Fail to ensure daily inspection done properly

· Fail to display two plates

Police said drivers have to slow down and when safe, move over to the next lane when approaching stopped emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or roadside assistance vehicles with flashing lights activated.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
