Alton Farms' grape stomp supports raptor rehab

A popular fundraiser is returning to Alton Farms Estate Winery.

Their ninth annual grape stomp will take place Saturday, October 5.

Festivities begin at noon, with the first stomp starting at 1 p.m.

The family friendly event will include competitive stomps for adults and children. Time trials will determine the most productive stomper, measured by the volume of juice produced.

The stomping fee is $10 per entry and money raised will go to the Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation.

The non-profit organization is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of birds of prey in Lambton County.

Owner Anne Kurtz-Alton said it's a very worthwhile cause.

“Raptors are one of our strategies for keeping the grape-eating bird population in control, which means more grapes to be made into wine," said Kurtz-Alton. "We are pleased to be partnering with Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation for the ninth year in a row. They work hard to keep our local raptor population healthy."

Kurtz-Alton said prizes, a stomping trophy and bragging rights are up for grabs.

Live local entertainment sponsored by Ravell Insurance Inc, samples of an unreleased wine and demonstrations from the raptor rehabilitation centre will be happening throughout the day.

The Caregivers of Petrolia Feral Rescue will be raising money with a selection of food and the Girl Guides will be there with cookies and coffee.

Local artisans will be selling their wares on site.

Alton Farms Estate Winery is located at 5547 Aberarder Line in Plympton-Wyoming.
