The Sarnia Sting’s mini win streak is over.
They took on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on the road Sunday afternoon and ended up losing 5-4 in a shootout. They were coming off three straight wins against Sudbury, North Bay, and Flint.
Sault Ste. Marie opened the scoring in the first period when Carson Andrew got his 3rd of the season.
However, the Sting would leave the period with a 2-1 lead after goals from Carter Kostuch and Easton Wainwright.
The Greyhounds would score two of their own in the second period. Travis Hayes would tie the game before Charlie Hilton would grab Sault Ste. Marie’s second lead of the game.
The Sting tied the game again before the end of the period as Lukas Fischer found the back of the net.
The two teams would exchange goals in the third period. Defenseman James Barr gave the Sting a lead with roughly 11 minutes to play, though David Holub would score with just over four minutes left in regulation.
Neither team would score in overtime and needed a shootout to determine the winner. The only one to find the back of the net was Sault Ste. Marie’s Justin Cloutier.
With the loss, Sarnia’s record sits at to 5-2-1-3, while Sault Ste. Marie moves to 5-5-0-0.
The Sting’s next game is on Wednesday, October 23, at home against the Flint Firebirds.
