Lane Sim is headed east.
On Tuesday, Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca announced that the forward had been released from the team to the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Sim was signed in the spring of 2023, going 53rd overall.
The Nova Scotia native could have gone on to play in the QMJHL but chose to sign in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) to follow in his father's footsteps.
His dad, Jon Sim, is the all-time scoring leader for the Sting. His brother Landon also plays in the OHL, for the London Knights.
Sim struggled to make his presence known on the ice in Sarnia. The 17-year-old managed six assists in 52 games and was never able to find the back of the net.
"This is a difficult move, but one we respect," Seca said of the forward. "Lane was a great teammate and dedicated member of our program but ultimately he wanted the opportunity to play more and this move facilitates that request. We wish Lane all the best."
