Sting fall to visiting Firebirds 5-4 in a shootout

The Sarnia Sting dropped their eighth in a row, 5-4 in a shootout to the visiting Flint Firebirds Wednesday night.

It was the third time this season the Sting and Firebirds have forced a shootout.

Ryan Brown opened the scoring for Sarnia for his sixth goal of the season and his third goal in the last three games.

Head Coach Alan Letang said the team put forward a great effort.

"I thought our guys played real well," said Letang. "The penalty kill was four for five, I thought they showed some good desperation. We were committed to some adjustments we were doing, they were reading the play well. I thought Nick (Surzycia) made some of the saves he needed to make for us and we were good in the faceoff circle tonight. I thought those kids battled hard tonight."

Liam Beamish scored twice for the Sting, his first two goals of his OHL career.

The loss drops Sarnia to 8-17-2-5 on the season.

The Sting are home to Owen Sound Friday night for Christmas at the Hive in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Players will sport their Christmas themed jerseys, some of which will be auctioned off after the game. Fans are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Inn food bank.

You can catch the game live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) starting with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m.
