Despite inflationary concerns, a spokesperson with the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) says the travel sector has been busy all year and is expected to ramp up during the winter months.
Regional Manager Susan Postma said Mexico continues to be a popular destination this time of year.
However, cruises also appear to be favoured.
"Cruising is as popular as it's ever been, whether it's an ocean cruise or a river cruise. We're also seeing lots of Disney, people going to Walt Disney World," she said.
Postma had various tips for travellers looking to escape this winter.
You're encouraged to download the app the app of the airline provider they're using to stay up to date with schedule changes.
"I think that's probably one of the most helpful things you can do, especially if you're flying," said Postma. "Twenty-four hour advance check-in is offered mostly from all airlines -- if not all. Do take advantage of that. Get yourself checked-in in advance. Preparedness goes so far when you're travelling."
Being prepared also includes checking carry-on and luggage restrictions, and arriving at an airport on time.
Postma said it's recommended for international travelers to arrive at the airport a minimum of two hours ahead of their flight -- three hours if travelling during a busy season.
"Check the connections that you have," she said. "Just make sure that you have a nice generous connection point."
Advance research is also encouraged.
"Depending on your destination, a country such as Africa, take a look at what those requirements may be -- such as malaria pills or antivirals," she said. "A lot of that [information] can really be found by either talking with your own medical provider, or we often recommend that you check with the Government of Canada website for things like travel advisories."
Postma said travellers are also encouraged to have their documentation in order, including travel insurance.
Lastly, Postma said those who require prescription medication should keep it in the dispensed bottle with the proper label. Travellers may also want to carry the physical prescription as well.
