Sting swap goalies with Wolves, ship d-man to NB

The Sarnia Sting have swapped goalies with the Sudbury Wolves ahead of the OHL's trade deadline.

They acquired Andrew Gaulton from the Wolves in exchange for Sudbury native Karsen Chartier.

Gaulton, 18, was selected by the Wolves in the 2nd round of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection.

The Bowmanville native spent the 2023-24 season with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Espanola Paper Kings, where he held a .916 save percentage through 28 games played.

Earlier this season, the Sting loaned Chartier to the GOJHL's Strathroy Rockets. He's since moved on to suit up for the Greater Sudbury Cubs of the NOJHL.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca commented on the trade.

“This trade gives Karsen a chance to earn some time with his hometown team in Sudbury," said Seca. "Andrew Gaulton remains with Niagara Falls in the OJHL and will be an affiliate player for us for the remainder of the year. He’s a 2nd round pick and someone we like in his draft. We believe there is still some upside left in his game."

In another trade late Thursday, the Sting dealt defenceman Jonathan Kapageridis and a 2027 second round draft pick to the North Bay Battalion.

Sarnia received a second round pick in 2025, a third round pick in 2027, and an eighth round choice in 2027.

“Jonathan is having a strong season, and is a recent NCAA commit. However with our strong backend and the need to acquire more draft picks we believe this helps the organization moving forward," Seca said.

Kapageridis was chosen by the Sting, second overall, in the 2024 OHL U18 Priority Selection.

The Sting's next game is Friday night, at home to the Owen Sound Attack on CHOK.
