Two searches in Sarnia turn up nearly $50K in drugs, cash

Nearly $50,000 worth of drugs and cash have been seized after Sarnia police carried out two simultaneous search warrants at a London Line motel and a London Road residence on Wednesday.

During a search of the motel, police seized 2.71 grams of fentanyl, 43 oxycodone pills, 203.29 grams of cocaine, a shotgun with a defaced serial number, 26 rounds of ammunition, and $1,660 in cash.

The Sarnia Police Service said two Sarnia residents, 43-year-old Kristal Owen and 34-year-old Jesse Krom, are facing multiple charges including firearm-related offences, possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule one substances, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police said both were held for bail.

Officers also searched a residence on London Road near Brock Street North.

Officers said a 15-year-old from the Greater Toronto Area tried to run out the back exit but was arrested after a brief chase. However, police said a conducted energy weapon was used during the arrest.

The teen was allegedly found with $4,435 in cash and 11 oxycodone pills.

After searching the residence, officers also seized a loaded Glock handgun and 132.56 grams of cocaine.

City police said the total street value of the drugs and cash seized is estimated at $47,073.

The teen is facing multiple charges but cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

"This was another excellent investigation by [the Major Case Action Team] that safely resulted in more drugs and weapons off our streets. It reflects the serious dangers that drugs and drug trafficking pose to our community and to our officers," said Police Chief Derek Davis. "We also continue to see that these crimes and offenders frequently transcend municipal borders. We will continue to work collaboratively with our many policing partners as we address these pressing community safety issues."

Charges against the accused have not been proven in court.
