A man wanted on 17 criminal charges, in different regions throughout Ontario, was arrested by Sarnia police on Wednesday.
According to police, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E) Squad identified that a wanted man was staying at a home on Kathleen Avenue in Sarnia.
When Sarnia police learned that the suspect's charges included drug, gun, and dangerous driving offences members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) were dispatched to arrest the man.
"[Sarnia police] have an excellent working relationship with our R.O.P.E. Squad counterparts and are able to support them and/or be supported by them to effectively deal with high risk and violent offenders in our community," said Deputy Chief Ron Hansen in a release.
Shortly before 4 p.m., police let the public know that an investigation was going on in the area of Kathleen Avenue and Walnut Avenue and asked people to avoid the area.
ERT members entered the home and arrested a 42-year-old man just after 4:10 p.m., police said.
The man was taken to the Sarnia Police Station where arrangements will be made to transport him to the Halton Region, where his arrest warrant originated.
