Lambton Archives seeking 'Heritage Hunters' for video series

Lambton County Archives is looking for local residents' who are eager to explore their genealogical roots.

Archivist/Supervisor Nicole Aszalos said they hope to uncover their family story through a new video series called Heritage Hunters.

"We will be journeying through a lot of the historic records, personal discoveries and even local history connections or family connections that truly shaped Lambton County's past and present," said Aszalos.

Participants must be comfortable being filmed, sharing their story and available for multiple research and filming sessions.

"We're looking at exploring all of the interesting stories that are kind of hidden away in local history and uncovering these stories while experiencing and learning more about genealogical or family history research in a very unique way," she said.

No prior genealogical research experience is required, but having a known family connection to Lambton County is a good starting point.

"Having ties to Lambton County will allow us to access more records here within the county and within the archives itself, since our collection is primarily focused on Lambton County," Aszalos said. "Although, we do have some stuff on the surrounding area as well, because we do have families that have connections to a few other parts of Ontario and even internationally, which is quite neat."

All archival research services are being provided free of charge, but participants will be responsible for their own transportation to the archives site in Wyoming and filming locations.

"The application period is ongoing until March 28. The crux of it will start May through July where there will be the filming and the actual research and trying to uncover that family past and those family connections," Aszalos said.

Episodes are set to be released in December.
