Ontario's police watchdog is investigating a weapons call Sunday morning at Walpole Island First Nation.
Shortly before 9 a.m. Lambton OPP along with members from the Chatham-Kent Police Service and Walpole Island Police Service responded to a complaint involving a firearm in the area of Pumphouse Road and Shawnee Road.
Police said there was an interaction between police and occupants of a suspect vehicle, at which time an OPP officer discharged their firearm at the vehicle which then fled the scene.
As a precaution, a hold and secure was put in place, lasting a few hours.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said the suspects were apprehended later on and no serious injuries were reported.
The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Canine Unit also responded to assist with the investigation.
The SIU has since invoked its mandate and anyone who may have information regarding the incident, such as photos or videos, is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at siu.on.ca.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
