New Enniskillen Township councillor excited to serve hometown

The newly appointed member of Enniskillen Township council is enthusiastic about serving his hometown in a new capacity.

Tim Williams was selected by council to fill a vacancy during a special meeting earlier this month.

"I've lived in Enniskillen Township all my life," said Williams. "I've got a farm business along with a seed company in Enniskillen and I've been on the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department for many years. Reaching about 30 years now, in different roles along the way."

Williams, who served as deputy fire chief for many years, thinks finishing the current term of council is a good way to get his "feet wet."

"I've always been interested in municipal politics," he said. "I've had a lot of other positions with leadership within Ontario boards and local boards, and it just seems like a new adventure or a good fit for me. Being that it's a short period of time, I can get my feet wet and if I like it I can continue on."

Williams said his grandfather and uncle also served as councillors for the municipality

"I think it might be in the blood," Williams said. "I came in this with no hidden agenda. [I'm] just interested in how municipal politics works and hope to see if I can make Enniskillen a better spot."

Williams attended his first regular meeting on March 17.

"I was really nervous," he admitted. "I've sat on a lot of different boards and I've been in a lot of tricky situations with the fire department, but for some reason I was very nervous about it. I'm not sure why, but after the first meeting our mayor made me feel quite comfortable. So, I feel much better now."

Williams replaces Mary-Lynn McCallum who resigned last December.
