UPDATE: No injuries in train-transport crash

A driver is charged in a crash early Tuesday morning involving a freight train.

Sarnia police said the train collided with a transport truck crossing the tracks in the area of Lasalle Line and Tashmoo Avenue.

In an email to Sarnia News Today, Deputy Sarnia Police Chief Ron Hansen said it appears the driver of the truck proceeded across the tracks despite the crossing signals being activated.

The 61-year-old driver was issued a provincial offence notice for disobeying a railway crossing signal.

No injuries were reported and police said the truck was not carrying any cargo at the time.

Sarnia Fire Rescue and Lambton EMS also responded.

Lasalle Line between Vidal Street South and Tashmoo Avenue was closed to traffic for over 24 hours.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue said Tuesday afternoon its crews had been on scene for seven hours.

The area reopened just before 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

"CSX Transportation has now completed repairs to the railroad," read a Sarnia Police Service media release. "We would like to thank the community for their patience while repairs were underway."
