Thousands of local voters took advantage of advance polls over the long weekend.
In Sarnia-Lambton-Bkejwanong, over 26,000 cast their ballot early. That's just over 24 per cent of the 106,301 registered voters.
Acting Returning Officer Amanda Persad said they had a continuous stream of people over the four days.
"We definitely had lineups Friday morning when the polls first opened," said Persad. "I'm not sure if it was because it was the holiday weekend and people chose to all go quickly, but it definitely evened out and we had a very steady flow through the weekend then after that."
According to Elections Canada a record 7.3 million people cast their ballot early. That's up 25 per cent from the last election in 2021.
Persad said if higher voter turnout continues, it's going to be a busy Monday as well for the over 700 poll works across the riding.
"We have all of our polls, we have people gong to long-term care homes, seniors homes, the mobile poll at the hospital so we're covering a lot of ground on Monday for sure."
She's asking voters who plan to vote on election day to be patient.
"Remember that the people working here on election day are local community citizens as well," said Persad. "They've received their training, they want to work and be a part of the election process. So that's why we're just asking for patience. They're going to do the best they can at the polls, these are your friends and your neighbours and your family, and we're hoping for a really great day."
Election day is Monday, April 28. Polls will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
To be eligible to vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years old and you must prove your identity and address.
Voters are reminded to bring along their identification and voter information card.
If you didn't receive a voter information card in the mail, you can search your polling station location online at Elections Canada.
In 2021, before the riding change, a total of 17,148 voted early in Sarnia-Lambton, about 20 per cent of the 85,439 registered voters.
