Two new exhibitions are opening at the Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery (JNAAG) on Friday, April 25.
Curator Sonya Blazek said "Futures" by Rajni Perera transports viewers into boldly imagined dystopian landscapes.
"As one of Canada's most innovative contemporary multimedia artists, Perera masterfully blends diverse influences -- from Sri Lankan artistic traditions and Indian miniature painting to medieval armour and science fiction -- creating powerful works that challenge conventions," said Blazek.
The exhibit was organized and curated by the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
"Her creations span painting, sculpture, and drawings, and tell stories about being a woman, moving to a new country, and how people might survive in a damaged world," Blazek said.
The other exhibition, curated from JNAAG's permanent collection, is called "Storm Watch" and presents an examination of nature's forces as climate uncertainties intensify worldwide.
"Visitors will discover powerful perspectives from renowned Canadian artists including Christopher Pratt, Rita Letendre, A.J. Casson, and David Blackwood, each offering unique artistic commentary on humanity's relationship with the nature’s most dramatic moments," Blazek said.
JNAAG is open Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday until 8:30 p.m.
Both exhibitions will run until the end of August.
