Major reconstruction project in Pt. Edward resumes

Work continues on a multi-million dollar reconstruction project in Point Edward.

It its latest update, the village said line painting is taking place on Phase 1 of the project Monday.

The update stated repairs, under warranty, are also are being made.

The village said work is ongoing at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and St. Clair Street.

Work will take an estimated 10 days longer than originally planned due to underground infrastructure conditions discovered during digging late last week.

The intersection is now expected to reopen on Wednesday, June 11.

Work is also continuing along St. Clair Street between Alexandra Avenue and Albert Street, with a full closure expected Tuesday and Wednesday to allow for storm main repairs.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when travelling through all construction areas and obey road closed signs.

The over $7 million project includes traffic calming measures such as bump outs and lane reductions as well as new water mains, sidewalks and a multi-purpose path.

The project was originally hoped to be completed in 2024, but was delayed due to safety concerns and contractor changes.
