Vintage in the Village will return to Point Edward's Waterfront Park after the event was introduced last year.
The event, held in partnership with the Village of Point Edward and Sarnia Street Cruisers, will be held on the last Friday of every month, beginning on Friday, May 30 (weather permitting).
Village Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Jim Burns said aside from showcasing classic cars, the event acts as an opportunity to attract people to the area and highlight local musical talent.
"We also see it as a good opportunity to support some local charities," he said. "We have a different charity lined up for each month."
During Friday's event, 50/50 raffle tickets will be sold to support the Inn of the Good Shepherd. The opening night will also feature music from JAGA Musical Entertainment.
Burns said the number of car enthusiasts who participated last year varied from show to show.
"The first one, we had between 100 and 110 cars. I think we got up close to around 160 at the biggest of the shows," he said.
Pre-registration is not required in order to participate, and admission is free.
While Vintage in the Village will run similarly to last year, Burns said there is one significant difference.
"We've talked to some of our local businesses to give them an opportunity to set up in the park and showcase what they have to offer," Burns said. "The thought was that it would be set up like our market used to be, so that's something we would like to expand upon. Hopefully the one business for this month does well, and the word gets out a little bit, and others will take us up."
The only business to sign up for Friday's event was Sitara Indian Cuisine. Initially, the idea was centered around restaurants, but Burns said they're happy to support other businesses interested in setting up at the park.
"We're focusing on village businesses first," he said. "Then, we'll go from there."
Vintage in the Village is scheduled to take place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. However, gates open at 4:30 p.m.
Burns said the only concern this week is the possibility of rainfall. If the event is cancelled, it will be posted on the village's Facebook page.
The intersection of Michigan Avenue and St. Clair Street is currently closed so those driving to Waterfront Park may want to take Victoria Avenue (which runs parallel to Michigan Avenue) to Livingston Street, and then turn left back onto Michigan Avenue.
"They can come around from Venetian Boulevard, but then they have to make a left-hand turn into the park, into the entrance... It's much safer to come the other way," Burns said.
The final Vintage in the Village event of the year will be held at the end of September.
