Annual poker run supports junior moose program

Funds raised through Sunday's third annual “Ride of Respect” Poker Run will assist youth in the Sarnia-Lambton community.

Organizer David Burrows said the goal is to bring in at least $2,500 in support of the junior moose program at the Sarnia Moose Lodge 1046.

"It's basically for young folks, ages five up to 17 years old," said Burrows. "It teaches them the importance of giving back to the community as well as learning some social skills and interaction. There's some fun in there, too. They always have great activities. I'm a proud member of the Moose Lodge so it just seemed fitting that we wanted to give back that way."

Participants will collect stamps during the 200 kilometre trek, which stops at Bad Dog Corunna, Moose Lodge Wallaceburg, Actors in Petrolia, the Forest Golf Club, and Hiway Bowl in Sarnia.

There's also a bonus round at Imperial City Brew House.

The stamps will then be turned in for playing cards once they arrive back at the Moose Lodge later in the day.

Prizes will be awarded for the best poker hand, and Burrows said they might even give a bit of money to the person with the worst hand. The poker run is open to both motorcycles and cars.

The cost to enter is $25 per driver or rider, and an additional $10 for passengers.

Burrows said everyone is welcome to come out to the Sarnia Moose Lodge's weekly Sunday breakfast, at 9 a.m. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and the poker run kicks off at 11 a.m.
