SCCDSB 50/50 raffle to support student learning

A new school year means another 50/50 Cash Raffle for Schools by the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

There are just three weeks left to purchase tickets.

Communications and Community Relations Supervisor Leah Cabral said the raffle helps fund student learning and school-based initiatives across the district.

"The funds raised through the 50/50 are what help us to be able to go above and beyond, seek out innovative learning opportunities, have that extra field trip, a variety of different things that we might not have been able to offer otherwise," she said.

When people purchase their tickets, they can choose which school to support.

Every ticket goes towards the overall jackpot. The winner will get half of the money, no matter the school they decide to support.

Cabral said they host the raffle because children's learning moves fast.

"We want to be able to keep up with that, we want to be able to offer them in the moment opportunities that we might not have had otherwise," she said.

In the spring, the board raised more than $30,000 and retired Educational Assistant Bernadette Orrange took home $15,000.

Tickets are three for $5, 10 for $10, 30 for $20 and 150 for $50.

Cabral said tickets can be purchased through the school board's website right up until draw day, which is set for September 19.

"We've got that energy. Fall and Christmas is in the air. If somebody has a couple of dollars laying around or their thinking on getting a head start on supporting my kids school or my neighbours kids schools reach out, go to our website, go to our social media because the tickets aren't that expensive but the rewards are plentiful," she said.
