Man arrested following police foot pursuit

Sarnia police officers on patrol early Wednesday morning arrested a man wanted on outstanding warrants after a brief foot pursuit.

Police in the area of London Road and Christina Street spotted two individuals in a business parking lot at around 2:48 a.m.

The officer engaged in a conversation with the pair, and recognized one of them as an individual known to have outstanding arrest warrants.

When the 42-year-old man was informed he was under arrest, it's alleged he ran away.

Police said the officer gave chase and was able to catch up with the suspect, and bring him under physical control.

A search conducted during the arrest discovered several break-in instruments including bolt cutters, pliers, and an auto light emergency tool equipped with a window punch.

The investigation also led police to the discover of two high end watches, foreign currency and other electronics.

Police are working to determine the origin of these items.

The suspect was held for bail on charges of obstructing a peace officer, possession of break in-instruments and two counts of failing to comply with probation.

He was remanded into custody.
