A mobile Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event will be held in Lambton Shores this weekend.
A partnership between the County of Lambton and Clean Harbors Canada Inc. allows residents to drop off their hazardous materials, free of charge, so they can be disposed of correctly.
"Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected at the mobile depot," said Public Works Manager Matt Deline. "These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and the potential to damage our environment."
Acceptable materials include oven cleaners, batteries, cleaning fluids, aerosols, paints, and solvents. A full list of acceptable and non-acceptable items can be found on the county's website.
HHW can be dropped off at the County Public Works Department, at 6958 Townsend Ln., on Saturday, October 4, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
To help make the drop-off process faster, residents are asked to package their items in disposable cardboard boxes, bags, or containers. Staff will unload the materials in these packages and they will not be returned.
Lithium batteries should be separated from all other battery types for safety reasons.
HHW collection events are held in St. Clair Township on select dates between March and October, along with two mobile events.
The final HHW collection event of the year will be held on October 25 at the Clean Harbors site, located at 4090 Telfer Rd.
