Sarnia police say no charges will be laid in a dispute between striking Lambton College workers and a man in a vehicle who was trying to leave the property.
A video circulating on social media shows the driver approaching what police are calling an "unlawfully obstructed exit" on London Road.
The driver stopped, moved barriers that had been placed in the roadway, and slowly tried to drive forward.
Words were exchanged, and several individuals stood directly in the vehicle’s path to prevent him from entering the road.
Police said the driver took reasonable precautions to avoid contact, however, individuals continued to impede the vehicle and deliberately placed themselves in physical contact with it, resulting in one person falling to the ground as they tried to hold onto the vehicle as it left the scene.
Police are reminding everyone that it's legal to peacefully picket on public property, however, the use of force, threats, intimidation, or blocking access to entrances and exits is illegal.
Protesters are allowed to use signs, as stated in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but they can't use barricades.
Delays should be expected at both the London Road and Wellington Street entrances for the duration of the strike.
Picketers are allowed to "communicate information to individuals crossing the picket line, entering or exiting the premises."
Anyone with concerns regarding public safety is asked to call Sarnia police at 519-344-8861 or 911 in the event of an emergency.
