Sarnia Police make arrest after medical call

Sarnia police have arrested one man following a medical call.

On Friday, emergency crews responded to a call at a grocery store on Murphy Road for a possible overdose in the washroom.

They located a man with drug paraphernalia that they believe had recently been used.

As the man was being treated, police discovered he was on release for previous criminal charges with conditions not to attend this location and a weapons/ firearms prohibition order.

After being assessed, he refused further treatment and was arrested for violation of release conditions.

Police searched the man and his backpack, finding a folding knife and a brand-new Dewalt Impact Driver with the anti-theft device still attached.

Officers confirmed that the drill had been stolen.

As a result, a 37-year-old man with no fixed address was charged with failure to comply with both his release order and his probation order, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to his prohibition order, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The man has had 35 interactions with police in the last year, which include 13 arrests and 31 charges.

He remains in custody following his bail hearing.
