A recent fundraiser by Lambton College's baseball team, in support of Bluewater Health's cancer clinic redevelopment campaign, is being termed a massive success.
The team hosted 'Curveballs for Cancer Care', presented by Marcotte Disposal, during their game against Sault College on September 20.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, just over $50,000 was raised which smashed the goal of $2,000.
Members of the team presented a cheque to the Bluewater Health Foundation on Tuesday.
Head Coach Al Bezaire said none of this would have been possible without the incredible support from all of the sponsors, prize donators, raffle ticket buyers, financial donators, game attendees, and the greater Sarnia-Lambton community.
"Our community continues to show just how wonderful they are," he said.
Meanwhile, the first patients were treated at the newly renovated cancer care clinic space in April of this year.
A state-of-the-art lab was completed in 2022, and the expansion of an outpatient pharmacy in the final phase will ensure timely access to critical medications and chemotherapy treatments.
Construction of the final phase is underway, and the project is expected to be fully completed by early 2026.
The redevelopment, originally announced in May 2023, is being fully funded through philanthropy.
The original $3.7 million fundraising campaign goal increased to $5 million after the project was first announced.
