PA Day event to focus on food history at Lambton Heritage Museum

Food history will be explored during a PA Day event at the Lambton Heritage Museum this Friday.

Families are being invited to a Taste of History between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Grand Bend site.

Educational Program Coordinator Colleen Inglis said there will be a chance to explore how science, food, and history are deeply connected.

Families will be given a chance to test their observation skills with a scavenger hunt through the gallery and an opportunity to learn about traditional food preservation methods, like pickling and jam-making.

"Whether you’re solving our scavenger hunt, learning about jamming or pickling, or exploring our feature exhibit, you’ll see how traditions of the past still shape what we eat and how we live today," Inglis said.

Curator/Supervisor Dana Thorne said the event also provides one of the final opportunities to explore the museum's feature exhibit, A Taste of Science, before it closes on October 25.

The travelling exhibit, created by the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, examines the science of preserving food and preventing spoilage.

"It has some great hands on, interactive, touch screens where you can press a button and it will spray out a nasty scent at you and you have to guess what was rotting in the fridge," said Thorne. "Kids have really loved that, so it's been quite popular."
