A 23-year-old man is facing several charges after Sarnia police seized a loaded shotgun during a traffic stop.
The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) said a small pickup truck with stolen licence plates was seen on London Road, west of East Street, at around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8.
Police said the driver made several turns before pulling into a parking spot at Germain Park as the officer conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was arrested for possession of stolen property.
During a search, police seized a loaded 12-gauge pump-action shotgun with a defaced serial number (with the safety set to off) and 22 shotgun cartridges.
The accused faces the following charges:
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless transport of a firearm
- Transport of a firearm contrary to regulations
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Possession of a firearm knowing its serial number has been defaced
The SPS said he was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
