A joint police investigation into child sexual exploitation has resulted in the arrest of a 77-year-old Petrolia resident.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit (CSEU), members from Lambton OPP, Chatham-Kent Police Service, and OPP Digital Forensics Unit worked together to search and seize multiple electronic devices from a Petrolia home earlier this month. Investigators later determined that there were grounds to arrest and charge Lorry Tigner.
The 77-year-old faces two counts of possession of child pornography.
Tigner has been released from police custody with a January 12 court date.
Provincial police consider the safety and protection of children a top priority and have committed to identifying and pursuing individuals who use technology to exploit them.
"Online child exploitation is not a hidden threat; it's a widespread and deeply troubling reality," said Detective Staff Sergeant Chris Barkey, OPP CSEU. "Offenders are increasingly misusing everyday technology and popular apps to share illegal content, connect with others who share their intent, and target vulnerable children. These platforms, designed for connection and creativity, are being exploited in ways the public rarely sees. Law enforcement agencies around the world are working relentlessly to identify offenders, rescue victims, and ensure those who prey on children online are held accountable."
Anyone with information related to online child exploitation is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
