Kitchen fire claims life of dog, causes $400K in damage

Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services said there was no risk to a school in Forest on Monday afternoon when firefighters responded to a nearby house fire.

It happened at a home on McDonald Street, across the road from Kinnwood Central Public School, over the noon hour.

Fire Chief James Marshall told Sarnia News Today that the blaze was contained to the kitchen.

The home sustained heavy smoke damage, estimated at around $400,000.

Sadly, a family dog died in the fire but crews were able to save a second dog.

We're being reminded to always make sure we have working smoke alarms as they can save lives.
